Loblolly House

Named for the pines characteristic of the Chesapeake Bay area, the architectural forms and interiors of this single-family residence reflect its shoreline habitat of trees and tall grasses. The prefabricated elemental architecture by Kieran Timberlake and furnishings by Marguerite Rodgers merge pragmaticism with poetry to create a quiet, luxurious simplicity. The green hue of the exposed birch walls and bamboo wood ceilings mimic the color of the native sea meadow cordgrass while sophisticated glazing folds back to bring the outside in and take in the western sun. Beach stones, sisal rugs, and comfortable, iconic modern furniture complete this 1700-sq-ft house among the trees.
